Vinny,
Welcome to our group.
I am hoping that you are not driving, getting on ladders and using a saw any more.
I've had EP for 47 years and have been on Dilantin and Phenabarb for over
20 years. My last sz was 2 years ago and before that it was 4 year.
What kind of meds are you on?
That is a good idea to keep track fo your szs. It may give you a pattern and
help your Dr.

Subject: [epilepsy] During a SeizureHi Tammy,
My seizures are basically identical to yours.
I feel them coming on, but when I am actually having the seizure I am at a
total blank.
People who've witnessed me having them all say approximately the exact same
thing. I am gritting my teeth, mumbling - not making any sense, staring
, and maybe walking away from them.
Sometimes I set up my PC cams hoping that if I have a seizure I'll see and
hear it with my own eyes, but that never happens.
My worst seizure was a grand mal, when I was driving my car coming home fro
m work at 4:00 am.
I was very tired after working since 8am the previous morning, and had ver
y few hours of sleep for the 2 days prior to that. I pulled into the par
king lot of a supermarket, felt one coming on, so I immediately headed for
a parking spot.
The next thing I found myself surrounded with police, an ambulance and a cr
owd of people.
Then I realized that I crashed right into the front of the store!!. Luck
ily I had an old 78 Lincoln, so there was some protection there which saved
my life. Needless to say, I don't have a driver's license since then.
Honestly. I feel I am better off without it and the pedestrians are saf
er also.
There were two major instances when it happened at work (btw, I'am a stageh
and).
One was when my partner and I were cutting up some wood. He had the saw
and I was steadying the end for him. About five minutes into the job, I
find myself out on the loading dock! I hadn't felt the seizure coming on
at all! I quickly ran back inside to see if he was OK, and he asked me
if I was ok. I explained to him what happened.
Another time was when I was climbing up an 18 foot ladder. Just as I was
reaching the top, one of my friends noticed that i looked like I was going
to have a seizure and yelled at me to get down. If he hadn't done that,
I don't think I would've realized it until it was too late.
One more thing... For my doctor (and myself) I keep a detailed record on
my pc using a spreadsheet where I log every seizure that I have. Date,
time, location, what I was doing, etc.. maybe 10 columns of info. A s
trange thing is that during a seizure I am able to access the file, go to t
he next row, update it and save it! A few hours later I won't realize th
at I had done it already! Hard to believe!..
At this time I have my second application in for Disability, so I am very c
oncerned.
Take care,
Vinnie

Erin,
I have complex partial seizures. I don't know much of what I do when I have
one. My botfriend tells me I say things during the seizures, try to move
around and grit my teeth. I know I have had them, but they last a few
minutes and after I have sat for a few minutes afterwards I go back to what
I was doing. I don't know much about the way the other kind are, but that i
s
what the neurologist said my type of seizure was. Take care.
