RE: [epilepsy] Your info on Lamictal - genetic

Hi Doris, If you have insurance before you switch to generic try to get a
strongly worded letter from your neuro stating that due to an increase in
seizures, the mortality and morbidity due to the nature of your seizures,
etc she / he is mandating you to only take brand name meds. Then have your
pharmacy submit it to your insurance for approval so they cover the
difference.

This just worked to get my daughter off generics and also switched to the
Lamictal XR (Extended Release) formula which seems to have helped although
its only been 11 days so far.

Your experience or information concerning Lamictal would be
appreciated. I take 400mg daily of regular Lamictal, and I am
seriously thinking of changing to the genetic. Of course the
main reason is cost of the drug.

Have you ever changed and if so, how did it go? Did you see
or hear of results of changing and how it might have affected
your seizure control.

Thanks for your time and any direction or opinion,
Doris

Re: [epilepsy] I am new. Please can I have some advice.

Christin,

Welcome to the group. I have complex partial seizures, which I have had had
for 40 years. They started after a head injury I had when I was a baby.I was
on Tegretol years ago, but they did nothing for my seizures. My neurologist
has me on Keppra XR and Vimpat now.Even though I have been on most of the
seizure medicine, I know they all have different kinds of side effects.I
hope the doctor can find some kind that your daughter can tolerate and
adjust to. Take care.

Re: [epilepsy] Need suggeston

SKR,

I have had seizures since I was a baby. I am 40 now. My seizures started
after a head injury when I was 6 months old. I would have wrote sooner, but
I have been out of town. I had surgery on my left temporal lobeabout 5 years
ago. You have to go through a lot of tests to see if you are a candidate for
the surgery. I had it and done and it helped my seizures tremendously. I
still have them, but they are not as bad or as many. There is always a risk
in having surgery. I was having so many every month, so I figured things
couldn't get much worse.I am still having seizures, but since they are not
near as bad or as many, I am glad I had it done. I hope this helps. Take
care.

Hey Craig,

Tiger being who he is, with what he has done in the sport he rules, most definitely is why the press is involved so much. Also its because of the system of corporate ownership of our government!
