This is the cheat sheet I was referring to. It is somewhat Massachusetts specific, so always refer to the social security website!!

Yes your income depends upon who is living and what you pay into you bills. I being married or when I did work p/time had to have it reviewed every 3-6 months. Now as a married couple my wife has to send copies of her pay stubs to the SSI office here where we live. I once had to go there each time but with the increased amount of people on it. You are able to mail it in to them. So it will be adjusted I think quarterly??

Pam,

Is she going to be living with you? SSI is adjusted based on whether she pays for the "full" or "partial" amount of her living expenses. So, if no one is helping her pay for rent/utilities, she would receive the maximum benefit--I believe the base amount from the feds is around $500, then states usually kick in extra. It goes up depending upon your age and disability. If you're blind, you receive a higher amount.

Are you her rep payee? Then you will receive a letter from SS every so often to account for how much her rent is, how much her medical expenses are, etc...

Hi! We are new to the group. My daughter is applying for SSI benefits and she turns 18 next week. We would like her to get the full amount of benefit. The SSI process is all very, very confusing to us. To get the full amount would we have to charge her room and board? I was reading about "fair sharing" where you have to show she pays her fair share for the household expenses, is that the same as charging for room and board?
Any info would be very appreciated. She has uncontrolled seizures from viral encephalitis, she did not get SSI as a child due to family income but she did get a supplemental insurance under a waiver program for disabled kids.
Pam
