Re: [fast5] Re: Its been a long time

Thanks for your reply, I found it so interesting what you mentioned about gluten intolerance. Gluten is something I've never even had a thought about, I'm not even quite sure what it is exactly or what foods contain it, but I'm guessing breads? pastas? I work in a grocery store and I have encountered customers asking for products that are gluten free, I feel so puzzled when faced with a request that I'm not even sure of the definition of so I usually get help from the department manager, but honestly I've never thought much about gluten until now. I'm very curious to do some research.

It IS a very big subject. There really isn't a decent definition of "gluten" ... or rather there are several. Basically the thing we are talking about here is the fact that there is a toxic peptide in several of the grains that form the basis for the standard Western diet ... namely wheat, barley, and rye. In our half of the hemisphere, these are hard to avoid, since they are added to lots of foods. The upshot of this is that some people get really sick from just *eating*.

Yeah, right now this is hitting the news big time. It's about time. The research really started 30 years ago or so, and Paul Newman pulled wheat out of HIS products. But no one much was listening.

It's a pretty easy experiment though: just avoid processed foods in general, and eat vegies, rice or potatoes, fruit, meat. See how you feel. There are a lot of "gluten free" foods now too, and some are worth it, but as an experiment, you just need "real" food.

I had an interesting experience today. It came time to eat. I just didn't want it really. I wasn't very hungry, I think my mind was more hungry than my stomach. I got a salad and a sandwich, I ate the salad and when I started eating the sandwich I just had this weird overwhelming sensation to sleep, LOL. I could barely chew, it was like bam! bedtime!! right now!! LOL. I didn't finish it and i went to sleep, it was so weird, and it was mid day, I felt fine before I ate, then I napped and my boyfriend woke me up and I was kinda... weirdly emotional LOL.. I feel fine now as if nothing strange took place, but my stomach is also back to empty. I love that feeling of emptiness, it feels better than eating.

It feels great to put on a pair of jeans that were tight last week and gave me a 'muffin top' (lol) and anticipating them being tight... and them feeling .... amazing and fitting with no 'muffin top', this feels great!

I'll definantly look into gluten information, thanks for the insight on gluten/moods, i would never think of it. It was just so weird today to fall asleep in my sandwich when I previously was not tired at all.

I have that experience a lot. I'm not sure what it means. I do know that I have kept many kinds of animals, and "going to sleep after eating" is pretty common. Since I work at home, I find a short nap after meals is amazing. It clears my head for the rest of the day. That is a standard practice (or at least was) in much of the world, and some gurus claim a "power nap" is a great thing.

I do know thought that eating starches makes your brain secrete serotonin, which is a sleep inducing chemical. So if you *don't* want to get sleepy, eating fewer carbs is good. Eating fish or turmeric is said to do the opposite. When I was in school, I always ate a tuna salad before a test!
