Since my daughter is non verbal, I am wondering if anyone here has these kinds of seizures and what you feel like before and after. Do you have headachs, or feel pain, or lost or dizzy?? I just really need a better idea of what she feels to help her.
*When I was having mostly absence seizures I felt capable and useful in my work. Then I would go out or in the words of co-workers and clients I would be absent while still awake for moments. Afterward I could not remember some of the simplest parts of my job and had to ask where certain things were and it was embarrassing and disappointing. Sometimes it felt like the ground shook when it did not. Mostly I just needed time in the midst of a busy demanding job to recoup and re-orient myself which was not possible due to time constraints. Mine were also more triggered by sounds and situations than by lights of any kind. Pain was not an issue for me during those seizures, although stress to recover all orientation and be efficient quickly could cause even more confusion and headache.
Be patient when your child comes out of it and be ready for some need to slow down, re-orient and re-settle into what was or is going on. Such patience and understanding without speaking about it really helps. Talking about it later is helpful...after a few hours when things feel normal again.
Sincerely, Jennie
