Re: [epilepsy] Adrian, re: drinking

Hi Adrien,

The others are right.  It depends on a lot of things like what your triggers are, what kind of medication you are on, etc.  My situation is different.  My simple partial - secondarily generalized seizures were misdiagnosed over 15 years ago as a stress disorder.  It turned out that they are the result of brain lesions caused by MS, Lyme, or child hood encephalitis.

The seizures only occur during MS type episodes that generally last for several months or more.  When the episode is gone so are the seizures.  I do not drink during that time but I also chose not to use the meds at this time.  This was a decision not made lightly and it was made after dicussing pros and cons with my Dr.  Right now she said as long as they did not get worse it was not a problem but if they became prolonged or more frequent that I needed to.

I have always enjoyed a drink or two once and a while before I knew what they were and it never affected what was going on with me but now that I do know I avoid it during episodes just in case and inbetween which can be months to years go about life as normal.  My nero said it was ok in my case but you should definately talk to yours even if you have done it without trouble once or twice.

Even if your Dr says it is ok please pay very close attention to how much and how often and I would not drink alone because you never know when something could change and what used to be ok is now a problem.

Take Care,

Christine P
