I'm sorry I don't have any advice about Topamax, but it looks like you got some
good info!
If you are ever looking for access to psychosocial support, tips on explaining
things in developmentally appropriate ways, eeg preparation info, or anything
like that, let me know! I am a child life grad student, and I'd be happy to
point you toward some resources or, if not, at least offer my very humble
advice. I am new to the field but I have learned a few things (or have access to
information) on helping kids and families through medical experiences. This goes
for anyone here of course. (of course I understand that I don't know much more
than anyone here, and with the internet, you can pretty much find out whatever
you want to know)! BUT I am learning a lot and just want to identify myself as a
potential resource.
I started taking seizure meds at age 8 (23 now) so I do understand that the
whole thing can be confusing and stressful for all involved.
Best of luck - he is indeed lucky to have a great mom who is being so proactive
and involved in his care!

Subject: [epilepsy] NEED HELP PLEASE! Topamax (Topiramate) QUESTION
My sons neurologist wants to start him on 25 mg. 2x day of the generic form
of Topamax...(Topiramate) .
He is currently taking 2,000 mg. a day of Keppra XR. He is 7 and weighs
approx. 70 pounds. He has grand mals & complex partials mainly.
He has been put on numerous other seizure meds in the past only to find that
they caused him to cluster and have an increase in frequency of seizures. I
m really worried about starting him on this new med. I have also heard that
Topamax can cause severe dizziness...is this true?
I've had his new medication for over a week now.Have been too afraid to
start him on it.
I'd appreciate any opinions concerning this please! Thanks!
