[epilepsy] Re: Alcohol/was: just staying in

When I was diagnosed I didn't drink any alcohol for a over 4 years.
At the time I only drank alcoholic occasionally so it wasn't much of a
change. I was having multiple severe complex paritals a day and decided
I would cut out anything that might make it worse. After my tight
temporal lobectomy in March of 2008 I didn't have any alcohol for over a
year, and was still having seizures, more mild then previously, 1-3
times a week. I decided I would never know the effect if I didn't try,
so I had one margarita and drank it over a period of 45 or 50 minutes.
For me it made no difference.

Yet, for each person it will vary based on your current seizure
activity, how much you drink, and what meds you are on. The best thing
to do is do a little research on your med with alcohol before you try
it. Some people react more strongly when they drink with AED's. If you
do decided to drink, don't drink very much the first time since you have
no way to know how you will react.
