Re: [epilepsy] Headache post seizure

Hi Jennie
I have to have complete darkness also a blanket partially over my head even should it not be dark enough.
Complete silence too...need to be in a room where nothing can get to me, no noise nothing until it eases
enough so can sleep it off if possible.

My headaches coincide with my seizures also. I was told that a headache on one side is a migraine. However my
headaches are all over or in the area stressed by seizure or vasculitis which causes some of my seizures. I
too have not found a perfect solution.
Dr's had me on immitrex for a few years. Then my doctor found that putting 5cc's of Lidocaine 4% up the
nostril with head turned toward that side and sniffing a cc at a time thru the facial sinuses and up past the
side of the eye (where you will feel a slight burning) into the source where the migraine chemical is
triggered to send it out calms that part of the brain just above eye & temple and stops it from sending the
painful chemical.
I have to put feet up & hang head down off couch, chair or bed to do this. It takes about 5 minutes per side
and by the time I am upright relief has already significantly begun. I have been using this for 5 years and
when I remember it is very effective For me and also since it is a topical and very inexpensive medicine I
have less toxins going in my system and pharmacies and insurance are so happy to pay for it and the 5-10 cc
syringes without needles.
Sincerely,
Jennie
Also Neurologist ordered glasses that automatically darken in outdoor light. This was the first step that
reduced my migraines by 80% immediately. So they have continued this for 7 years.

Doris
I haven't had a big seizure for quite a while now but when did realized had to 1st know that these headaches
are caused from all the tightness in the body during the seizure+the thrashing around. 2nd a way to relax.
Think of cause and effect. We know what is the effect of the seizure...this headache of ours now to find the
cause and a way to get rid of it. Should it be from all the tension you feel the tension in the neck, like
yourself it is usually in the one side (then for me it gradually hits both but starts in the one). I take my
fingers and starting gently rub that area until giving it a good work over. Then finding the trigger point
(the point that hurts the worst) and work on that point more as this is where it is based on.
Do this on any place it is making your circle bigger and bigger and working back to the trigger point.
Sometimes I have found that near the end of my headache time it ends up in my top neck area...hey this hurts
but is good sign as only tension. Doris if you can't understand what am doing here and want to write me
privately please feel free epilepsyhealth@sasktel.net and can maybe explain better to you.
Know a bit what you may be going through as have had these headaches before and after and it is the after ones
that if don't catch them and do something about immediately if possible the headache for me has lasted days.
Good luck Julie
p.s. but please feel free to write me any time.

I was wondering if anyone found something effective to deal with the headache post seizures. My last seizures
were Friday morning before waking, and I still have dilly of headache especially on one side.
Should you have found something effective to use for this, please be
kind enough to share.
Thanks for your time.
Doris
