Hi Gina,
Megan's situation is completely different than your son's. She's 21 and has had JME since she was 10. That means she has tonic clonic (grand mal) and myclonic seizures. Megan was on lamictal for a time which did not work well for her, so they added 3000 mg of Keppra, and even that was touch and go for her. She went back to depakote, which has always worked well for her, but she was still having an occasional seizure and some small myclonics. So her doctor added topiramate, and that has brought her into complete control of her seizures. She had some minor side effects when she first started the drug, but never complained of dizziness.
Topamax can cause memory problems in some people, but the only way you'll know if it helps your son or not is to try it. Seven is so little, so I can appreciate how you are afraid things will harm him, but remember the doctor prescribed the med because he or she thought it had the best chance of helping your son.
Best of luck,
Tammy
