Short of leech therapy, I cannot give blood due to overseas living. I do not know about my genetics for this ... oh, I think my sister does have that problem. She always gives blood. At least at this point in time I have my cycles to rid me of iron.

If your sister has it, and has the genes, you certainly can get
your doc to get you gene-tested. Which means they will also
do the tests for TIBC and ferritin, so it's not a guessing game.
I think menstrual cycles are protective for most women, but
not always.
But it looks like a kind of phytate --- IP6 --- does a good job
of drawing down ferritin levels. I think turmeric does too, and
Vit C, but they "liberate" the ferritin into a raw iron form in the
blood. *That* seems to be what triggers the A-fib in me. I'm
hoping the IP6 doesn't. But I'm also getting tested because
this is too complex to just guess at. Eating turmeric,
drinking red wine with meals (or taking red grape extract:
Shaklee has something called Bibex?), eating whole grains
(or grain bran extract), Vit C, plenty of calcium with meals
... I think would help *prevent* the issue, and for most people
it would be harmless enough.
Actually figuring out the celiac stuff was really complex too.
I'm a fan of getting "real" tests, when it's possible. The
problem is when one falls into the "grey area" where a
thing might be a problem, but it's not "diagnosable"
having a fairly high blood sugar but not actually being
diabetic. Some of us want to "nip the problem in the bud"
before it causes too much damage, so we do stuff like
change our diets and experiment and talk it over with
each other.
