Re: [epilepsy] Tons of questions

Rhonda,

Each person has their own triggers that cause a sz. Not all people with
mental problems have szs and visa-versa. Coffee bothers a few, blinking
lights bother some, loss of sleep bother some. Each person has to find
their own med that works for them.

How often do you go home? When you do - could you keep a diary of when
he takes his meds, when he has a sz, how long does it last, and what does
he do afterwards? You might find a pattern and that may help the Dr.
You might ask him how he feels before he has one. sometimes they
smell or taste something or have some feeling. That is called an aura.

How often in a day does he have a sz? As Jewl says it sounds like an
absence sz (Light sz- doesn't have convulsions and doesn't pass out.)

Could he keep a record himself? Does he know when he has them?
Probably not.

I suggest your mom or/and you talk to the Dr. and see what he
thinks your brother can do.

I have been on Dilantin and Phenabarb for over 20 years and am
pretty well controlled -- but I have something like complex partials.
I don't know when I am having it. Someone has to tell me that I am
not acting like my usual self. I have instructions to different people
that when I am not acting my usual self-- to call my daughters who
live in town. Mine are not short like your brothers. Mine last
about 2 days. My last one was 2 years a go and before that it was
4 years. I live in a retirement center-- so there are people around
who know how I usually act.

On the website that Jewl gave you-- on th left side there is a
place where you it says types of szs. Click that-- There are
about 25. Click each one and it will tell you how that szs affects
you.

In what state does your brother live?

Millie
