Re: [epilepsy] My intro

Debbie, I'm sorry to yell, but PLEASE GET OFF THE ROAD if you're having auras. Driving during an aura--which is actually a small sz in itself--is extremely dangerous, whether it "becomes a sz" or not. Get checked out and treated, and please do NOT drive until they stop. You run the risk of hurting--or killing--yourself and everyone around you.

Good luck!

Stress is a hugh trigger for me with seizures. I had just had a significant upsetting event in my life within 24 hours of experiencing the below:

Last weekend while standing in line at a store, I noticed that suddenly I was having a seizure aura:
1. the people behind the counter moved away from me in synch and appeared to be half a football field away, yet were still carrying on their business.
2. I felt faint after noticing this, lost all strength in my arms, as if they weren't even there.
3. In trying to get out of the store, I had difficulty with the glass door or the pane of glass, which one to choose
4. I couldn't figure out where to put my feet on the floor so I was walking taking high steps until I got out to my car.
5. Once in my car, I noticed blackness as I was coming out of some state of mind which I cannot describe and having no clue how long I was sitting there.
6. Driving home was very difficult.
7. Total
exhaustion preceeded this.

Here are a list of my auras that come out of the blue:

1. Sudden extreme fear of unknown origin
2. Finding things funny and laughing hilariously when inappropriate
3. Alice and Wonderland effect with sizes of objects
4. Piercing ringing in both ears
5. Sudden nausea of unknown origin
6. Lightheaded with floating feeling
7. Word salad
8. Sudden severe acid reflux
9. Tingling down left side of body
10. Numbness on left side of face, mouth, down throat and tongue
11. Deja Vu
12. Pending Doom
13. Muscle twitching in left legs
14. The floor feeling like I am walking on a rock quarry
15. Severe balance and dizziness
16. Trouble understanding what people are saying
17. Loss of time

I thought this would be a good way to introduce myself. My EEG's show slowing and spiking in both temporal lobes and central brain. Currently the only anti-seizure med I can tolerate is
Klonopin and that is not doing a very good job. Have tried all the meds with the exception of the older generation meds and Depakote. I'm ultra sensitive to the side effects. Currently I am on drugs that lower the threshold for seizures but I have to stay on these to control my mood disorder. In between neurologists at this point but have a good psychiatrist who is trying to monitor all this.

Considering a service dog and have sent away for an application. My cat is serving as my seizure dog for now, will follow me around and start staring at me which leads to yowling loudly at me and getting up into my face looking at my eyes. Usually an aura will occur shortly after that. I am now listening to my cat's wisdom :-)

Thank you for reading my first email and am looking forward to meeting all of you :-)

Debbie
