Slow Cooker Beef Biryani - Indian

1 pound top round steak -- cut into strips
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 garlic cloves -- minced
1 onion -- minced
1 cup fat-free Greek yogurt
1 cup frozen peas
1 1/2 cups cooked basmati rice -- or brown rice

Place the beef, spices, garlic, and onion into a 4-quart slow cooker. stir. Cook for 7 to 8 hours.

About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the yogurt, peas and rice. Cook for 30 minutes. Stir before serving.

Serves 6

AuthorNote: Biryani is a one-dish meal that is well-spiced but not spicy. Traditionally it is made using ghee, a type of clarified butter, but slow cooking brings out the flavor without adding fat.
