Re: [epilepsy] Taking more than one medication

CBI,

I have been on at least 2 medications at a time ever since I got out of high
school. It might have been a year or so later, but my family doctor could
only put the Depakote up to 3,000mgs a day. They sent me to a neurologist
who started adding other medicine and taking it down. Some of them they have
to check your blood to see if the levels get too high, but some they don't
either. Keppra and Neurontin does not have to be checked every month like
the others I took. The neurologist said they come out through your
kidneys,so the levels don't get too high. I was one Zonegran with the other
two medicines before I had the surgery for a time. I lost a bunch of weight
while I was on that, but I had to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes it
seemed like. My arm started going numb and the neurologist told me to stop
that medicine.I guess the neurologist knows which one needs to be higher
than the other. My medicine hasn't been changed in years except for the
Keppra to Keppra XR.I take my medicine spaced out through the day, but that
is just because I don't like mixing different kinds of medicine. I know
others don't do that.As long as you take the medicine the same time
everyday, I would say it doesn't matter.I hope this helps you. Take care.
