[epilepsy] Re: changes

Hi Marie,

I am no expert on menopausal symptoms or what happens after a
hysterectomy. I'm just going by what happened with my mom. She had a
fibroid tumor that was eight pounds by the time it was discovered, so
they did a hysterectomy to remove the tumor. At that time, they
usually took the ovaries whenever they did a hysterectomy, so it
threw her into kind of an instant menopause. She had major hot
flashes. There may have been other symptoms, but it was the hot
flashes that bothered her most. I can't remember exactly how old she
was at the time, but she went on progestrine (sp?). Apparently, that
has fewer problems than estrogen replacement therapy. She is 78 now
and is still on hormone replacement. She has had no ill effects from
it and feels that she has several benefits.

Study all the information available to you, so you can make an
informed choice. If you have a family history of heart problems or
certain cancers, you will also want to take that into consideration.

Take care,
Tammy
