Re: [epilepsy] Thanks

Barbara,

The meds can make you really tired--depending on 1) if you're on too high of a dose 2) if you are just overly sensitive too them, etc... and 3) they are designed to depress your nervous system (to stop another seizure...hence the tiredness!).

Again, it's the quality of life--she should not be overly tired though, or completely foggy--she might be on too many meds/too high a dose. Certain meds are designed to be taken with another one--for example, you take Keppra with something else, (i.e. Lamictal). Usually, if you can't get good control on 2 medications, adding a third won't do the trick either. Right now I'm on Zonegran and Trileptal. But I keep back up doses of Keppra when I do have a seizure since it wipes it out immediately (weird!).

You're niece should feel completely free to take naps :)

Subject: [epilepsy] Thanks

My thanks to everyone who wrote!!

Thanks for answering my questions.

I called my sister last night and read her your messages.

I am going to print everything out for them.

Once they get a computer, I will encourage my niece to join this group.

Ironically their dog has epilepsy and is on 2 different meds.

Seems a lot of you are on Keppra which is what she is currently on.

I am not totally unfamiliar with Epilepsy. My younger sister got it at age 3
in the 1950's.

She was on Phenobarbital. She out grew it.

One of my major concerns is that my niece walks around in a daze.

She will fall asleep or pass out while eating or while doing something.

Not sure if this is the epilepsy or all the medications she takes.

Does anyone experience this?

Regards,

Barbara
