Keppra did to you what Tegretol did to me. I'm on Keppra now, after being on phenobarb for most of my life, and as long as the dose is low enough (currently a tiny 250 mg), I am able to get complete control without miserable effects, but I had severe problems with a so-called "normal" dose of 1500 mg. My thyroid spun out of control. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. I didn't sleep AT ALL for months. :(
I have always been extremely sensitive to "normal" doses of any AEDs, which is why I no longer see neurologists. None of them appreciated that "therapeutic" doses were killing me. Thank God, my neurosurgeon does. I just wish he could be around for another 40 years! He's about 80 yo and will be retiring before long.
LIZARD :)

I also went from Lamictal to Keppra and had awful side effects. With the Keppra I got very depressed and suicidal. There was nothing I could do to feel better. I would plan my departure, writing goodbye notes and videos for my children. Within 24 hours of taking me off Keppra I was back to normal.
Please do not take my experience as definite side effects for you. I have heard that several people love Keppra. Just be aware of the positives and negatives of all your meds.
