HI,
I manage lists for special needs kids. I have been dealing with,
searching for information, going from doctor to doctor, for almost 10 years
since my youngest son started having seizures in Jan 01. I have seen more
neurologists than I care to remember. We have done EEG's, VEEG's,
ambulatory EEG's, MRI's with and without contrast, and enough neurological
exams that I think I could do a decent one myself. A member of one of my
lists has posted something that I think is in error and I am researching it.
She is holding firm to it and I am going to my experts........YOU! As
manager of a list, I can't let false information go unanswered. Opinion is
one thing ( to say this is good or worthwhile is fine) but to say that this
is a viable method that many neurologists do is another.
This person is saying that an MRI can document small changes in brain
tissue right after a seizure. This person claims that a seizure causes
physical changes right after a seizures and that if you have an MRI and have
a neurologist look at it, they can SEE a seizure on an MRI, just an MRI can
diagnose a seizure. Now I have a son who was having seizures about every
hour or so who had 3 MRI's and several neurologists ( one the head of
neurology in a major city, like one where a CSI TV show is named for)
looked at it and didn't see any seizures.
I think this person ( who does not have seizures or a close family member
with seizures as far as I know) is talking about kindling but she hasn't
used that term. So has anyone heard of this, MRI showing a seizure? I do
know about functional MRI's and other tests but that isn't what she is
talking about.
