I'm confused. I thought a breakthrough seizure was when someone is on medication and they have a seizure but because of the medication it prevents a full seizure from occurring and instead only a smaller seizure occurs. Its an indication the medication being take is working by preventing a full seizure. In my case, they last a few seconds and I stay conscious. I have one about once a month and they may come in clusters. How are others defining breakthrough seizures? What's the difference between a breakthrough seizure and other regular seizure? I realize it may not be a black and white difference but what have others learned from their respective doctors may help explain this. Thanks Take care.

My daughter who is 6 and half years old has had many break through seizures. Im referring to break through seizures as when she has gone so long without one and has one and its always one of the worst then. My daughter has gone 15 weeks, 13 weeks, 8 weeks etc then she'll have a break through seizure and its wither grand mal or several clusters of her grand mal or tonic clonic ones that we end up in the er and then hospitilaized for.

Hi all,
Just wondering if any of you have had a " breakthrough" seizure. My daughter had one on Saturday that sent her to the ER. Now they have her on her regular meds (Tegretol) 1tsp 2x a day and then a 1/2 tsp around 1400 (2pm). It was a grand mal seizure in her sleep. I HATE those, they scare me so bad. If any of you have had these I would love to know. Thank you
Amanda
