That is sure good news to hear. You are a good friend for her. Depression is so easy to get not only the
long post-ictal periods we get but the low self esteem that sometimes we put upon ourselves. I know if my
hubby spoke to me a little louder than normal (he thought I couldn't hear sometimes with the long/short term
memory loss) it would make me feel like I was doing something wrong, and/or lots of the smallest things would
get to me. Your friend needs to know she has a friend someone that has a couple ears and a big heart ready to
give her a compliment and have a big smile ready for her rather than someone putting her down. You are right
she needs something to do and exercise could be good for her even yoga if there is that near by her.
Something she can be proud of when the day is done.
You are a good and true friend!

Subject: [epilepsy] Lisa update
I want to say thank you to all of you who replied to my post about my friend, Lisa, and her depression. I was
really worried about her, but she's better now. I spoke to her yesterday. Her tone of voice sounds much
better, and she told me that she isn't having strange thoughts anymore. I told her to call me and let me know
if she starts having suicidal thoughts again. I also let her know that she can talk to me anytime she needs
to vent. Lisa knows that I understand. I think this episode of depression was caused by her being 1-3 days
post-ictal. I get depressed for a few days when I'm post-ictal. I've learned to cope with it by writing...
mostly poetry. Because Lisa's a volunteer at the school I work at and school's out for summer, her depression
could also be caused by her not having anything to do. I encouraged her to enroll in an exercise class at the
local YMCA. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Lisa's okay and is doing much better.
Thanks again,
Tristin Seagraves:)
