Re: [epilepsy] Re: New here - have questions

Hi, Julie here. I am 66 and have had epilepsy since a very young teen. Drove for a bit but only my learners.
I do know in our small town there is a transit bus that will take you around wherever you wish to go. All you
do is give them a general schedule and they will come and pick you up and bring you home which would be good
if you could get. Should your son ever be on SSI or disability that service is given to them free. I am in
Canada here so you would have to look into it there. Speak to the town to see if there is such a service
available.
The girls are right too. talk about it openly. It is so good for others to know and you would not believe how
much relief it gives you as well. Living alone is not a sin but it would be good if he could have a dog there
with him as they are so smart and it wouldn't take long for the dog to pick up on when he would be having a
seizure. He could also be having seizures and it not be epilepsy. Let his neurologist figure it out. They
have lots of tests they can do to make sure.
Keep smiling and try and stay calm. Best medicine yet. :)
Julie

It depends what state you live in -- how long you can't drive after a sz.
It also depends on the Dr..

Thank you Millie, that sounds like good advice. We are openly talking about it, but his Grandmother won't
say the word seizure or epilepsy. We are still confused as to whether he has epilepsy or not. Him not driving
is a problem because he doesn't live in a city with a good public transportation system. He mentioned to me he
may need to move to Chicago or somewhere that has good transportation options if he keeps having seizures.
Right now his employer has him coming into work twice a week and the rest of the days he works from home. He
has been using a Taxi to get to work. His Neurologist hinted that he may be able to drive again after his
visit next week depending on how compliant he is on taking his medicine. Even though he is 30 I'm worried
about him driving and having a seizure and living alone. I know I will get used to it all in time, but I'm
pretty stressed out about it now.
