Re: [epilepsy] 1st time for Greg

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the Group. I have seizures with a possible side order of MS. My seizures are caused by brain lesions and only occur during MS episodes I've been having them for quite some time and didn't realize that's what they were.

According to my Neurologist fatigue is common with most if not all anti-seizure meds. Also anti-seizure meds have a tendency to deplete or interfere with the absorption of a lot of vitamins and minerals (calcium, magnesium, Vitamin C, Vitamin Bs, Vitamin D just to name a few) so that may be where that's coming from. It's probably a very good idea to have a discussion with your Dr and compare that to what you are told with a Pharmacist and information on available on Lamictal's website.

I'd also have my magnesium, Calcium, and Vit D levels monitored and add supplements as advised. You might want to talk to your doctor about extra C and B vitamins. They are water soluble and much less likely to cause problems when taken sensibly like minerals and fat soluble vitamins like A, D, and Es.

My Dr has me on a few supplements with a good multi and I've been doing much better. Just my experiences, hope it helps.

Take Care,

Christine

Hello everyone,
I've been directed to this website by a friend who has epilepsy.  He said this support group has been there whenever he's needed answers to various questions and was looking for any degree of support.  This disorder is relatively new to me as I had my first seizure on 12/27/09.  My neurologist has put me on Lamictal.  Since then, I seem to have no problem sleeping 9-10 hours a night.  Is this a side effect of this medication?  Is this new disorder draining the energy out of me to the point that my body requires this much rest?  I contine to work my full time job in the food service business.  This requires 45-50 hours per week.  I also notice I yawn a lot more throughout the day even though I don't necessarily feel any more tired than before the seizure.  Also, people have told me beware, this medication has a negative effect on teeth and gums.  These are the things that I've been wondering about for the past six weeks or so...any
feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks for being there, fellow-epileptians.
