Wow Bruce! Sorry to hear about that so called church you had gone to, I've had many siezures in my church and they never even came close to telling me not to come again!I'd like the name and address to that church to let them know a thing or two about how it is Gods church and God would not ever think of turning anyone away let a lone a physical handi cap person.

Hey Bruce,
Disability came about because of a congressman with epilepsy who worked on it for years to be passed in congress. I can't think off hand of his name (my great memory). Well this congressman got into politics simply by beginning to help a local person get into office to keep himself busy while dealing with his epilepsy. He wanted to become a priest but was told by the church he couldn't do that because he had epilepsy. So, take it where you want from there. Anybody could look up what I posted by finding the name of the person then looking up his life story. He worked hard with the EFA. Take care, keep a smile on your face!

Of all the complex partial seizures I had, one of them finally took place in the middle of July 2001, inside a church I'd been a member of for just under 6 years. A few months later I received a written letter for me to stay out and away from that church. If the reasons why they did this to me applied to everyone of that church, then no one, absolutely no one; no children, no adults, no visitors, not even the pastor, would be allowed to attend that church.

What keeps us from suing church leaders is that the American Disability Act (ADA) does not enforce equal rights in religion and private schools. So Disability Discrimination does exist in churches. Over the past few years I've been wondering about something. Of the people who have control of what goes on with religion, do they also have enough control in order to keep information about seizures and epilepsy from being brought to public attention, nationwide?

We are conducting a study called "Ictal Religious Experiences" , in which we hope to speak to people with epilepsy who may have had religious experiences during or around the time of seizures. This study will be conducted either at the NYU Epilepsy Center or or over the phone, and should only take about 15-20 minutes of your time. If you are interested in being in this study or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at nyuepilepsy. religion@
