Hi Greg! I was on Lamictal for a few years and then switched over to another. I have had ep all my life and yes, sleepiness or the oposite, insomnia, is a side effect. The deterioration of gums and teeth are a side effect, but a lot worse on other meds, such as dilantin. You would see a change in a few years. If you keep going to a dentist, it should be ok..
I have been on almost everything, and so far Keppra was the best. My insurance wanted me to switch to the generic form, so I did, but I do see some problems with it, so will probably ask to be put on Keppra xr. Be thankful that you can still work, a lot of people with this disorder can't get or keep a job. Do you still drive? Take care and feel free to ask all the questions you like!

Subject: [epilepsy] 1st time for Greg
Hello everyone,
I've been directed to this website by a friend who has epilepsy. He said this support group has been there whenever he's needed answers to various questions and was looking for any degree of support. This disorder is relatively new to me as I had my first seizure on 12/27/09. My neurologist has put me on Lamictal. Since then, I seem to have no problem sleeping 9-10 hours a night. Is this a side effect of this medication? Is this new disorder draining the energy out of me to the point that my body requires this much rest? I contine to work my full time job in the food service business. This requires 45-50 hours per week. I also notice I yawn a lot more throughout the day even though I don't necessarily feel any more tired than before the seizure. Also, people have told me beware, this medication has a negative effect on teeth and gums. These are the things that I've been wondering about for the past six weeks or so...any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for being there, fellow-epileptians.
