Barbara,
HI, and Welcome , My name is Jewl I am 47 years old and I am married and
we live in TX . I have had EP since 1996 after catching a virus . I think
it is great that you are seeking information for your niece.
My questions are:
How long after taking medication does it take not to have seizures/black
outs?
It take about 2 months for all the medication to level out in your system.
It is trial and error. Meaning you take it and than may have to tweak it by
increasing or decreasing the dosage until you stop having as many or non at
all. Everyone is different, no two medication work for the same people.
Has anyone ever had problems with itching on any of the medications?
Yes, I take Lamictal that has stopped my seizures but it makes me itch after
my last dose at supper so I take two Benadryl at dinner to counter act it. I
have been doing this for 12 years. I would rather take two extra pills than
have seizures.
Does medication control it or just lessen the episodes?
It goes either way. I have been through 9 different medication and
combination of medications to stop my seizures. Now I am just on Lamictal
and dong fine. Not everyone likes it though. It works for some, some it made
them worse and some are allergic to it. It is a long trial and error.
Does anyone ever get well and get off medication?
It is rare but I have heard of some growing out of it. It depends on why it
started to begin with.
I know you will find a wealth of information and friends here.
If I can help in anyway just let me know, I am the Owner of this group
