Hi Gina,
I started seizure meds at 18 I had seizure prior to that but we did not know
what was happening was not till 18 when I was tested. They started me out on
Dilantin which worked great for a few years I also have been on many seizures
meds as well.
Age 7 I can't really say how he will react and if any symptoms/side effects. I
was on Topamax as well I think it was 100mg it did cause severe dizziness, loss
of balance even when I was sitting as I took it, it was a immediate side effect,
25 mg is a small dose he might do fine with it only way to know is to try it an
monitor him listen to him of any side effects. I no longer take Topamax I
stopped that in 2 wks of taking it. I am only on Keppra 1750 mg daily so far so
good for 4 yrs now.
At one time I was on 3 different meds I hated it and it neither of them worked
alone and so,so together. I had to keep looking for another specialist who knew
what he was doing to get off those.

Subject: [epilepsy] NEED HELP PLEASE! Topamax (Topiramate) QUESTION
My sons neurologist wants to start him on 25 mg. 2x day of the generic form
of Topamax...(Topiramate) .
He is currently taking 2,000 mg. a day of Keppra XR. He is 7 and weighs
approx. 70 pounds. He has grand mals & complex partials mainly.
He has been put on numerous other seizure meds in the past only to find that
they caused him to cluster and have an increase in frequency of seizures. I
m really worried about starting him on this new med. I have also heard that
Topamax can cause severe dizziness...is this true?
I've had his new medication for over a week now.Have been too afraid to
start him on it.
I'd appreciate any opinions concerning this please! Thanks!
