Re: [fast5] New member, curious, welcomes feedback

Hi Helena!

I have had the same difficulties as you, only not as drastic, as my weight has not reached the numbers yours have.  I was working out 2 1/2 hours a day and not loosing weight. 2 hours of it was aerobic while 30 minutes was resistance exercise.  Didn't work. What I've learned since is when you have metabolism problems, like we do, it's best to do the weight lifting/resistance type exercises only as you won't loose with aerobic exercises. Building muscle tissue is one way you can train your body to burn fat. I've also learned that you don't need to do it daily, but work out long and hard one day a week.  The theory goes that when you work out long and hard you're breaking down you muscles and you need that week for your body to rebuild. I have a friend who does that and he has had phenomenal results doing it this way.

Something else I've learned through my research is that another reason for not being able to loose weight is because of adrenal fatigue.  So, you may want to have your doctor check to see if this is one of your problems. Below are some links that will go into more detail on this issue for you.  Only you can know if these are some symptoms you're experiencing:

Since you and I have some similarities in metabolism I want to warn you about something that I've experienced.  The first two weeks on this approach I didn't loose one ounce.  But the last two weeks I've lost 3 lbs and already this week I've lost 1.5 lbs.  So, don't be disappointed if you don't get results immediately. Sometimes the body can be a little stubborn. Just stick with it.

Lisa, on the LCHF group is not an expert.  She's only parroting what she's read in books, with the exception of the low protein aspect.  I've started reading some of these books and she's almost quoting the new Atkins book, Atkins Advantage, by Stuart L. Trager, M.D.

I disagree with her on the eating low protein.  You need the protein for healthy cell activity as well as for it's essential amino acids (which is essential for healthy cells).  You don't want your weight loss to be muscle loss (the heart is a muscle).  And giving your body the appropriate proteins can keep that from happening.  Also...from my readings...I've learned that as we age we are less proficient in processing protein so we need more protein than a younger person. So, you want to bare that in mind.  The biggest thing that I think she was right on is that you should get some of these books and read them yourself.  Because people only tell you what works for them, they don't know you or what's going on with your body...by reading this material yourself you will know intuitively what is right for you and what isn't. Listen to your body.  Let it tell you what you need to do.

I am no expert.  I am only realting to you information I've read and what I've experieced directly.  This is what has worked for me. I will also add that I have tried everything and nothing else had worked up to this point.

Namaste!

Hi all

I am 51, ffemale, 5ft 3 and weigh 365lb and have been dieting for 33 years. Tried every kind of diet. Got fatter. Doctors exasperated. Labelled me a liar when low fat did not work. Even Atkins didn't work. Am severely reactive to sugar and wheat makes me ill. Reduced carbs as I got more desperate and have been zero carbing for 6 weeks.
