Elizabeth,
I haven't seen my Dr's Rx pad for a while -- but I think it says "may substitute" and
he usually doesn't not check it. Not sure about that.

Hi Millie,
No, pharmacies do not give you the brand names unless your doctor writes "No Substituations" on the script. Generics have the EXACT same medication in them, but what is different is the dissolution rate through the body and fillers. The pharmacies do not give out "cheap medication" to make more money--if that was the case, they would only sell brand name drugs! Each pharmacy has what's called a Pharmacy Benefits Manager (PBM)--they negotiate the prices with each insurance company. It's quite complicated!

I had been on the generic-- then I had a sz and my Dr put me on the regular Dilantin.I've been on that for over 20 years now. That seems to work better. The Pharmacyshould give you what the Dr. orders-- don't you think?Millie----- Original Message -----From: Joe DiengerSent: Wednesday, September 18, 2013 10:23 AMSubject: Re: [epilepsy] Minnesota coach Kill hospitalized after seizure
With myslef I'll have some seizures for a while, then I won't, such as for some reason they seem to be better in the summer than winter except for this year. This year I've had some problems with my seizures between having grand mal seizures, and your whole body jerking makes it hard, such as this happened on Saturday, and yesterday I was cooking dinner, and just at the end of cooking dinner I was removing items off the stove I had a absence seizure. Between the heat I guess, and my sisters kids running around near the hot stove, and telling her to get her kids but she dosen't listen it just gets so stressfull after awhile, and I had a seizure. At least had a good dinner though made for my family out of it though. The only other thing I can figure out what may have caused this is my pharmacy gave me a wrong generic for my Lamictal, and I took this and started having seizures, and then I had the grand mal seizuze. I called the pharmacy and they switched my medicine for the generic brand I was taking "teva", and then I called my nuerologist and his office said the other drug was cheaper, and had less medicine in it than the teva brand. Ridiculous, pretty much the pharmacy gave me cheap medicine to make more money. From: Jewl <tagertwall@yahoo.com>

The last time I had a sz I was taken to the hospital and stayed for 24 hours--just to make sure I could live lone. I had been on the floor for quite a few hours. And checking the level of meds is not a bad idea. That was a year ago. I hadn't had a sz for 5 years.Millie Everyone is born right-handed, but only the best overcome it ~ Anonymous
