Re: [epilepsy] Minnesota coach Kill hospitalized after seizure

The last time I had a sz I was taken to the hospital and stayed for 24 hours--
just to make sure I could live lone.  I had been on the floor for quite a few hours.
And checking the level of meds is not a bad idea.

That was a year ago.  I hadn't had a sz for 5 years.

Talk about making a major embarrassment out of a molehill.   If they knew he just has epilepsy, I can't imagine why they'd hospitalize him.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill had a seizure on the field at the end of the first half of Saturday's game against Western Illinois and was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure, the school said.

The former Northern Illinois coach, who has epilepsy, was back home "resting comfortably" after the game, according to the school.

Players had already headed to the locker room at halftime and the band was playing on the field while Kill was down on the sideline. The Gophers won the game 29-12 with two assistants acting as head coach.

"Coach Kill's staff, which is the most tenured in the nation, and his team are well acquainted with his condition and are prepared if a situation like this arises," said senior associate athletic director Chris Werle.

"Coach Kill's epilepsy has been documented by both local and national media and our fans are aware that situations like this can happen."

Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys stepped in as acting head coach and defensive backs and special teams coach Jay Sawvel took over on the field.

Kill suffered a seizure in the locker room at halftime of last year's season finale against Michigan State.

Two seasons ago, the coach was carted off the field after having a seizure near the end of a loss to New Mexico State.

The school said he was driven to a local hospital Saturday "as a precaution to ensure proper medication levels."
