[epilepsy] Re: Motivation vs. Depakote, Trileptal or Topamax

Michele,

I have been on all three (not all at the same time, though). Mine was always paired with Dilantin. I know when I was on Depakote, I felt like I was always tired, and couldn't keep up with my studies (I was in college) so I had to drop out. I think Topamax was the same way, and Trileptal was exactly the opposite (I get the side effects of those two mixed up sometimes).
Actually, from the time I was diagnosed until when I went on Trileptal(?), I couldn't get motivated. I probably would have been a better grade school and high school student if I wasn't on meds like Tegretol and Phenobarbitol. Now my side effects are mood swings and headaches (but that's beside the point).
To answer your question, it's very possible that the meds have something to do with her lack of motivation.
