I changed my diet around 18 months ago to lose weight (to a very low carb diet) and right from the start I took tape measurements of my bust (scross nipple-line), waist, hips and thighs, as well as doing a weekly weigh-in.
Even when the scales showed no change or occasionally an increase, I usually found that one or all of my tape-measurements had decreased which was a real mental boost and incentive to keep going. You can also tell by the looser clothing and fitting into smaller clothing, but seeing actual numbers can't be beat :)
I gained back some of the lost weight after adding whole grains back into my diet and I don't want to go back to low-carb for various reasons so I'm going to give Fast-5 a go and intend to do the same measurements to track progress.
