Liz.
I know what your saying,I have to say it this way, "DON'T EVER GIVE UP" brcause
I'm 52 yrs old and there were times that I get mad at myself because I couldn't do
the same thigs that you said here.I couldn't drive because of the orders that the
doctor put in mrdical records. I has to wait for someone to take me to the places.
The one thing I miss is going to the movies, I would go check the news to see
if I like the movie, I would buy the dvd. Your never too old to go back to college.
You know, you can take courses online. That how I went to college, I have an A/A
degree in Bussiness and B/A degree in Law. But don't ever give up.
Just Rodolfo

Liz,
May be in seven years I'll be able to say, I've experienced it for 42 years. But, I haven't been able to drive to a college to get an education or to get a degree. My epilepsy began in 1974 and has remains uncontrollable ever since I've tried over twenty medicines had brain surgery been to Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospitals. And many I never whated to visit in the first place, due to having had a seizure in public and being carted there or police had to take me to one to heve a doctor give me medicine. They were holding my medicine as Police Edvidence, I had them on me to take as required in order to attempt to prevent seizures. One occurred that morning when police patted me down and found them and arrested me for Possession Of Drugs. Then finally after 12-14 hours of being behind bars where they were violating tital II of ADA, where they're told by the president of U.S. to provide water to people with epilepy inorder to take
medicine. I knew what was happening to my the level of medicines in my blood when it drops lower than the level where it's therapeutic. I had a seizure at there station on the next day, when they'd released me the night before and I returned to get my possessions. They took me back to the same hospital.
On 9/22/2005 I had a seizure in Baltimore, MD just five blocks north of Hopkins Hospital, a paramedic responded after a driver who saw the seizure called 911 or (311 in Balto.city). The paramedic came while I was having the seizure, as soon as I started to stand up, he walked over and said, "You had a seizure, GET in the ambulance". I don't need to given an ordered to get in an ambulance, when I don't ever want to go in the first place. I said, You need to have a police officer give me an order like that. Can you give me your ID. He did give ID, he radioed that he needs police assistance at what ever the exact location was. He didn't ask for police to assist the patient, so when police came, they snuck up behind me. Before I was lifted a little and then thrown forward and down, this resulted in bleeding from chin and right ear. My chin was lacerated, it was the point of impact, my right jaw joint was fractured and fine fragments of that fracture
punctured holes in a r. ear canal. This caused a very large amount of dental damage, tooth #3 was split, #4 was smashed completely to the gum, #19, 5, 17 damaged, #30 split... It had taken three years to cap or bridge most. My seizures still occur and I feel like a medication or drug using idiot without a car to visit the friends I used to have at one time.

Is there good in having epi? Well, I have experienced it for 42 years, and I can say yes. Although it's taken until about 2 months ago to finally get control of my simple partials, I live fully (when not knocked on my ass from med :sigh: ), have a college degree, two awesome teenagers (including one with autism), and my life is nothing to complain about (as long as I sleep!). I also have an underlying condition, hydrocephalus http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ Hydrocephalus, and both have taught me the importance of self-advocacy. I also met my best friend when I was starting an epi support group in college, and lo and behold, her son, now 3, has epi., so I have been able to help her with resources.
As far as what you see here, this is a support forum, and people who need support tend to seek it :), so that's probably why you see more of the neg here, but I can assure you that there are many of us out there who live well with epi.
LIZARD :)

i put the heading in all caps to get attention.i ask this because it seems to me that everyone seems to talk about terrible experiences they have with epilepsy.sorry if it sounds scary, but i thought that with everyone reading all the problems we experience with epilepsy.it is my theory that maybe some spirits can be lifted if some responses are made that indicate some happy experiences that they have while living with epilepsy.not just your own problems but i was thinking that reading some of the responses of others happy points could be uplifting to everyone.i'm thinking that since happiness is a stress reducer which can hinder some seizures, that this can be rather therapeudic for a great deal of us.so please do respond.
p.s. to jewl,i hope that you can appreciate this idea that i am trying to introduce, and perhaps periodicly this idea can be repeated as a potential spirit lifter for many of the group members here and that will be here.
thank you,shotwho24 aka ronald scott callahan
