Re: [epilepsy] What in the world...and my poo-pooed Keppra issue

Thanks, Keena. :)

I'm on reg generic Keppra, but I have it figured out. :) It apparently elevated my thyroid levels just enough to put me in hell, so I'm taking a lower dose of thyroid med and already feel MUCH better. :) I'd say I'm about 90% now, especially after my nap about an hour ago. :) What a ride!!!!!!!! At least I know now...

Well...lo and behold, last night I learned that Keppra can change thyroid levels!!!!!! !! I now recognize that I have some signs of slight hyperthyroid, and probably just enough to matter, since I seem to have a very small comfortable window...so tomorrow, I will call both my endo and nsg to see what can be done about this.

Thanks, hon'! :)

Thanks, Julie. :)

I'm very sure. I sleep 'til 3:30 or 4 am and then wake up hot. There are NO other symptoms, and my szs have
always started with a 3-4 min aura that wakes me up. There have been none since I started Keppra. No
post-ictal signs at all, just crappy sleep and fever.

I am finding out that Melatonin can also aggravate fever, but I had this problem long before I started
Melatonin a couple of weeks ago.

oops sorry Liz. Very sorry. What time of evening do you take your meds? Possibly if taken earlier the a.m.
would come sooner. Are you sure you aren't having a seizure just before arising? This or just after going to
sleep is when they usually hit if a nocturnal one. If you have one then it only makes sense you would be
sluggish in the a.m. Can sympathize with you in that department 100%.
Also have an autistic nephew so can link to there too.
Have a good night .... will be thinking of you in a.m.

Liz
What time of night does he take his last med? Those meds are strong believe me and if taken to late like I
sometimes do I also have trouble getting going in the a.m. He isn't having a seizure of any kind during the
night is he....that would sure make him sleepy or just not very responsive first thing in a.m.
When he starts/adds this new drug to his agenda watch for the first bit for any new changes. Might be a good
time, though you prob. do already, start a diary and see how it affects him. Possibly the a.m. sluggishness
with change and he will be sleepier at night? You just never know. And how Keppra affects another person could
affect him just the opposite. Nobody is the same.
Best of luck.

He takes his shower at night so just has to get up, get dressed, and eat, but it can be quite the ordeal
kicking him into gear.

LIZARD, not looking forward to it...starting Wed

No, thank God; none of that. I just have to prod him out of bed and make sure he gets dressed, make his
breakfast, and get him out the door.

does getting him up that early a big chore for you, do you have to help him with bathing and changing his
bedding if he wets the bed everyday. i know with me i have always wet the bed and then my teens i would wet
the bed on and off. my mother would have to help me with cleaning my ears and washing my hair in the bath tub
since i couldn't get my ears cleaned and couldn't get my hair washed right and cleaned. that what my difficult
situation i had as a child growing up.

Hey, Lynette. :)

Thanks for this. Does Klonopin leave you hung over? My son (15, autistic) starts school Wed and I have to get
him up at about 6 am.

Liz,
My Nuero gave me a little Klonopin in the pm to help me sleep. I am very happy with Keppra and sleep very well
now. Sweet dreams to you.
My best to you,
Lynette

Okay...there' s some hypocrisy going on here. Yes, I am sure that some people may find that MSG and other
things can aggravate their szs, but it's clear that it isn't many of us. I think that, if this is a subject
that interests some people, it should be discussed through private e-mailing.

At the same time, I am desperately struggling to sleep through the night for 2 months, and it's documented
that fever and insomnia are both possible effects of Keppra, yet because so many of you claim not to have had
these problems, you're telling me they don't exist. GOOGLE IT!!!!!!!! There is info out there, and my pharm
even pointed it out. I came here for HELP, and dismissal (for the most part) is what I have been getting. If
you're going to support Craig's discussion about MSG, why not mine?? I would be more than happy to discuss it
off-list. Keppra is the ONLY med to EVER control my SPs, and I would like to stay on it for that reason, but I
need validation and tips on getting--and staying--asleep. Already tried AmbienCR and Melatonin.

LIZARD, ready to leave

Hello,

I would say a little more respect is needed by those on this list who can't
seem to handle Craig's issue with MSG. This is a scientifically documented
problem: some people with epilepsy have more seizure activity when they
consume foods with MSG. I too support Craig's right to discuss MSG +
seizure related issues. If this is such a problem for a few of you, simply
delete his message when it appears in your email.

Peace,
