Being on dialysis, you will want to follow your doctors orders on protein
intake. Also, you will limit your cheese and dairy (except Butter, Sour
Cream and Cream Cheese). Remember to take your phosphorus binders with
every meal.

We can't make specific recommendations because we don't know precisely what
your dietary restrictions are. We can offer some general guidelines. You
need to meet with a nutritionist experienced in this problem. Your dialysis
center can recommend someone for you. It's a common problem amongst dialysis
patients.
Generally, a diabetic renal disease patient would want to eat a low carb,
low protein, low potassium and relatively low sodium diet. Thus, depending
on your caloric needs, you'd need to get more of your calories from healthy
fats. What that means is that your emphasis should be on eating non-starchy
vegetables with vegetable oil. You can liberally use herbs and spices to
keep the food interesting. You can go to our files section and use the
vegetable recipes. You can use most of the meat and fish recipes, reducing
the amount of meat or fish to correspond to your dietary restrictions.
Because fruits are generally high in potassium, they need to be restricted.
It may take some planning and research, but you should be able to find
adjusted recipes that you can enjoy. Our files section has about 10,000
recipes to work with.
