Actually, PET scans are newer and more advanced technology than MRIs.
When my husband had esophageal cancer in 1994, Positive Emission
Tomography was just beginning to be used, while MRI had already been
around for a number of years. My husband actually worked for GE at
their MRI facility in WI.
