i tried it in the beginning of my dieting days, but it didn't make enough of an impact. i'm planning on trying it when i hit goal, which is in 10 pounds, since i still would like to lose 10+ pounds beyond my goal. Until then, i'd be losing weight too slowly for my state of mind.
for men, i'd think 5:2 would work decently. YMMV
