Yes, I agree that he should be told the truth about his seizures in a way that is appropriate for his age. My doctor and my husband (now ex) wouldn't tell me much at first. I was 47 years old when diagnosed, but I ended up finding most information by reading a book, looking up things on the Internet and joining this support group. For me , nothing is worse than not knowing what was happening to me.
