Subject: Re: [epilepsy] IQ Tests for Cognitive Disorders
I have had 3 of these tests in all. The first was a few months before
my RTL, and one 6 months after. The third one was done just a couple of
months ago, 4 years post op as part of my Voc Rehab.
The test varies in what they ask you to do because it takes into account
many things. IQ is part of it, but it also tests your ability to learn,
your learning style, your strengths, how distraction affects you if it
all, and your psychological baseline. So this means the test will
involve visual and auditory tasks, puzzle solving, memory tasks, and
other intellectual functioning tests. Scores will vary within each
category for each person.
The tests I took before and after surgery were used to determine the
impact surgery had, if any, on my abilities. The test I took a couple
of months ago were used to determine what services/therapies would be
needed and useful as I take steps to return to work.
If your test is being used in the way you describe, it is because Drs.
are mandated reporters when it comes to things that would effect driving
ability. Unfortunately this is somewhat objective in some cases. If i
were you I would contact the Dr. who gave you the test and ask what, if
any, results on the test are effecting your ability to drive. Then ask
"What can I do to improve in those areas?" Be very careful not to get
upset with him/her, because this might effect their opinion of your
emotional stability.
