Classic recordings by Prince, Donna Summer, the Grateful Dead, Bo Diddley, Booker T. and the M.G.s, Love and the Sugarhill Gang will soon be added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, the New York Times reports. The Library of Congress will officially announce the new additions today, which were chosen because they represent "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" works in pop culture.
The particular recordings selected for the registry include Prince and the Revolution's album Purple Rain, Bo Diddley's single "Bo Diddley"/"I'm a Man," Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," Booker T. and the M.G.'s "Green Onions," Love's album Forever Changes, and a live recording of the Grateful Dead's May 8th, 1977 concert at Cornell University's Barton Hall. Other non-rock recordings that will enter the registry include the Vince Guaraldi Trio's soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas and a November 14th, 1943 performance by the Philharmonica-Symphony Orchestra of New York conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
