Hi,
For me Lamictal caused mood swings and weight gain (20lbs in 4 mths) I stopped it fast. I am currently on Keppra and the side effects are minimal also depends on the person as each of us react differently. With my Keppra and others I have been on don't seem to be able control the seizures well. I am on 1750 mg a day of Keppra I tried 2000 mg - 3000 mg a day and I found the more medication I took the more side effects I had - headaches lasting from hour to hours, days, nasuating, dizzy, migraine headaches. Mood swings, loss of appitite. So I keep the Keppra at a dose I have very little or no side effects with so far so good.

Subject: [epilepsy] Which Meds to Choose?
Hi,
I am recently diagnosed but apparently have been having partial seizures for most of my life. Lately they have become secondarily generalized and much more frequent. The neurologist thinks this may be a complication of where some brain lesions (which may or may not be a result of MS) are located. She wants me to take either Keppra or Lamictal to help control the seizures.
I have looked at the side effects of both and don't like the looks of either. Right know I am more worried about the side effects because what they think I already have is TLE. I do experience visual and auditory disturbances, fatigue, confusion, and the seizures do seem to affect my moods.
I am interested in personal experiences with these medications and suggestions or alternatives.
Thanks,
Christine P
