Thanks for responding, Terry. Maybe (probably) I have a negative attitude because when I think of implementing your suggestions, I think of reasons I CAN'T do them.
Going for walks - there are no sidewalks here and the ground drops off about 4 feet right at the edge of the road.
Start a new hobby - can you suggest one that doesn't involve spending money? My Dad set me up with a money manager before he passed away 4 months ago. I was in debt about $10,000. I now have a credit balance of about $1,000, but I'd have to ask the money manager for the cash. Can you suggest some hobbies that don't involve a large outlay of cash? Years and years ago, (OH, GOD, I'M OLD!) my grandmother got me into stamp collecting. I haven't looked at the collection in about 30 years. It's probably worth some money now. Maybe, I could find a way to sell it.
As far as volunteer work goes, I have no transportation. I can't ask my Mom. She's 81 years old and still getting over my Dad's death.
I just don't know what I CAN do to make myself feel better. I had never thought of self-mutilation until about 3 weeks ago, and when I did it, I couldn't believe how much better I felt, but I know there has to be a better way.
I AM getting counselling, but have had only a few sessions with my current counsellor. (Are there 2 "l"'s in "counsellor"
Well, my mind (such as it is) is wandering now so I'll say G'night.

Hi Mark,
I do think that some counseling is in order. When a person is a danger to him/herself or others, it is time to take action. Many people resort to inflicting physical pain upon themselves in order to forget or lessen the impact of the emotional pain that they are feeling. Some people find that they become addicted to self mutilation during times of emotional distress. Set some small goals for yourself (driving doesn't count). Go for walks, start a new hobby, do some volunteer work, etc. You will feel better if you stop thinking about what you can't do and start thinking of what you can do! Take care.
Terry

I've gotten so frustrated since I found out that my driving suspension would last at least another 4 months (if not forever), that I've turned my body into a scratching post. The scratches are mostly on my hands (hey, I can't use them for driving) and my arms, but I have plenty more skin to scratch to the point of infection and scarring. It's gottne to the point where I feel proud to have started an area bleeding.
Does anyone think that this warrants a visit to a doctor?
