Re: [epilepsy] Does anyone have 'migralepsy' a mixture of seizures and migraines?

Hi Liz,

I had a horrible headache that started on the top of the right side of my head. By the next day the whole right side of my head was in pain. It was as if my head was split down the middle with pain. I was misdiagnosed in the ER as having cluster headaches and I was given vicadin. I remained in pain for a couple more days. I became confused and started
having absence seizures followed by grand mals. I was hospitalized for four days in ICU and diagnosed with status epilepticus at that time.

Do you think that a headache could be a type of aura? I always worry that this will happen again every time I have a headache, but it has not. I was lucky to have had an EEG show both types of seizure activity while in the hospital and was prescribed meds that have controlled my seizures. Take care.

I had a single incident several years ago where I had a sudden and severe migraine-like headache (I typically don't get migraines) and some time later, I noticed the bed was wet and I had other signs of a possible GM sz but no memory of having had my usual aura first.

Where you're not really sure where one starts and the other ends?
