Re: [epilepsy] Re: New

Hi Mackenzie,

Welcome to our group. I was older when I was diagnosed (DX ) with EP. I had 3 daughters 2, 4, and 6 plus a husband -- now ex. That was 48 years ago.

I have learned so much from this group. Hope you do also.

Millie

Hello,
Im so sorry to hear this. I have seizures too. This story sounds a lot like mine. I started having seizures sophomore yr in High School. it was really hard to keep grades up because i just wanted to sleep all the time, not only from the episodes but the medication has a lot of affects as well. I have taken may different meds and the one I am currently on is Lamictal, and has been successful. But everyone is different. My parents had the same questions and spent hours researching. They worried alot because this is very scary situation. I have seen no help to me from eating or weight effecting my seizures. I was put on bc before i started have seizures because of pain and then I was put back on it to control hormones thinking that it would help. I cant say if theres a relation because I was never on my period with out bc when I started having seizures. But my opinion it does because when my seizures started at first and it was around then. Basically what im trying to say is this is going to be a battle. Your post sounds so much like my story. Many things come into play when being a teenager you want to go out and parents are worried or about being able to drive. I had a 4 yr battle and recently had a successful surgery that has so far been a great success. I dont really have advice but I wished I would have blogged and heard someone going through the same thing. hopefully this can be a short controlled incident, and i pray that it is. But theres so much support out there that i was unaware of. Im happy that your going out and looking for answers. I was lucky enough to have the option of seeing different doctors, which was a big help. I hope this was at least a little helpful and im not trying to be negative, but i would have wanted someone to tell me that I was not alone.

Once she stopped taking the hormones and contraceptive pills and during her periode she had another seizure and the Dr increased her dose to 150mg and after two weeks she had another seizure. I also like the foot-baths for their covenience - I can soak my feet while reading my email for 20- 25 minutes and not go to any great trouble to get my magnesium. [ Maybe I am lazy but needing to do something every day for months or years can get to be a bit wearying , for me anyhow. Patience is not one of my strong suits....] And whereas both the magnesium oil and the magnesium flakes can be used for both whole tub baths & foot baths, the magnesium flakes are less expensive then the magnesium oil. So given that, I prefer the flakes for myself. Though when I want to target a specific problem or issue, I use the magnesium oil for that as I can spray and rub it on the area that I was effected directly - this just speeds up the healing of that specific place though, one still needs to get the complete body

> For getting rid of seizures, the whole body's magnesuim levels need to be up. Maybe rubbing magnesium oil into the head might speed it up, but it could be dangerous to think that the seizures would not happen again and stop taking the drugs if the whole body's magnesium levels were not up too. Personally I think it is better to take longer and do aa good job of thoroughly getting the magnesium levels up as high as possible before going off of all drugs. Seizures are not always dangerous, but they can be and I don't see any need to take unnecessary risks.

> If you have headaches or want or need to get rid of pain, the magnesium oil is best for that as you can spray it on and rub it in. Of coarse though, you can put 3 or 4 cups of the magnesium flakes into a large plastic jug and pore filtered water in it to dissolve the flakes and use that to spray and rub. But you need to keep in mind, that the dissolved flakes are only about half as strong, or have half as high a concentration of magnesium, as the 'magnesium oil'. But still even using more of the flakes , it is still cheaper to use the magnesium flakes then the 'magnesium oil'. However, I do keep an half gallon of the magnesium oil in the house for emergencies plus also for things like headaches, etc. I got Lyme Disease about 18 months ago and every six months or so I get a pain in my left shin bone - it feels as if something is actually gnawing on it. That is another reason why I like to have the magnesium oil available. I am not fond of pain.....
>
> Sorry that I can not give a short anwser. But it really depends on the individual and how they prefer to use the product. Once upon a time I used to say that one had to do the baths - but there are people whom for one reason or another cannot take baths. Plus some people truely hate baths....and when people truely hate something they are not going to keep doing it..... And if one does not do this everyday, then they lose much of the progress they have made in getting the magnesium levels up. It is okay to miss day or two for special reasons, but not every week..
>
> But if how you use the transdermal magnesium is not an issue, then do the whole tub baths every night and use the flakes. If you want to do foot baths too everyday , that is okay after a week or so. That will speed getting the magnesium levels up.

When I started using the transdermal magnesium both Dr Sircus and his research assistant was around to answer any questions for me - and then they started a yahoo group for those useing the transderaml magnesium and it was around for 2 years, so I always knew I could ask questions if I needed to.
