Re: [epilepsy] Re: At the end of my rope!!!!!!! Keppra and insomnia...please help!!

I was takin Rispradol for a sleep disorder 2 mg.  Then it didn't work so I was on 4 mg. and it was to powerful.  So I split it in half and still it didn't work.  Taking 4 mg. knocked me out. So They took me off of it.  I learned to check with my regular Md. and she gave me another medication which worked.

Hi Liz
Sometimes we have to play with our meds, using our own intuition when it comes to affecting our mood, and
sleep like that.  I had one that when first took like the doc said I was asleep before getting into bed it
seemed ().  Given a few months of taking and it was getting longer and longer until was a good hour
before taking affect.  My home doc said to wait until then and take it about that hour before going to bed.
This works!
Good to hear it helped you by splitting your Keppra dose us.....sure hope it continues for you.
Julie

5-HTP also helps with weight loss (although I don't think I've actually lost much) and mood, as a natural
anti-depressant, and as long as I remember to take B6 with it (about an hour before or after), it gives me
good sleep, too. :)

I split my Keppra dose up for the first time yesterday, and it seems to have helped considerably, so I think
I'm gonna live now. :)

LIZARD :)

Liz - I know it doesn't work for everyone but Keppra has given me back the freedom that I lost at the age of
20. From the day I started taking it 8 years ago I have been free of all but the tiniest of auras, so small
and light that no one could know. The side effects I have are a tiny bit of unsteadiness on my feet when I get
out of bed in the morning, a few very small little muscle twitches aound my eyes which come and go, the memory
of course, thirst, a dry mouth and the sleep problems. Funnily enough Keppra stops me from remembering my
dreams unless I get woken up in the middle of 1 which is odd. All I take now is Keppra and Tegretol, calcium
and glucosamine. I'm not even under a specialist any longer, just my regular doctor. I am fitter than I have
ever been as I can now swim lengths without the fear of what could happen when I am out of my depth - it's
wonderful and makes me realise just how lucky I am.
I've never heard of 5-HTP and just looked it up - how good is it at helping you to sleep - does it give you
any other benefits/side effects??
