5-HTP is seratonin replacement. Mag is entirely different, although they may both be depleted by certain AEDs. I found mag helped considerably in controlling my simples (but didn't stop them), but if you take it together with a med that helps (even if it doesn't give you complete control), the two may work together to improve your sz control. I was on phenobarb only, which had never controlled my SP clusters (but did stop the GMs). Now I'm on Keppra and have complete control of both of them for the first time in my life. :)
