I don't know why you are getting gut issues, but I have found that
taking 1/4 tsp. of konjac with a meal really works. You can buy it in
tablets called "PGX" or by the pound. Bentonite works too. And you've
probably heard that gluten and casein are the culprits for a lot of
people, so you could experiment with food choices.
As for hot flashes: I have found out something very interesting. I get
them when I eat beef or drink beer that has molasses in it. Basically
anything with high iron content. I've never heard anything about this,
so I'm not sure why it happens. But it might be worth experimenting
with. It could be that since you are eating less, or the food is
combining more, that you are absorbing less iron from the food (you
don't really need all that much iron and in the U.S., people tend to
get too much).
