Re: [epilepsy] Triggers

Your son and sensitivity to scents, smells and odors like dish washing liquid you mentioned; sure, lots of things that pique the senses can trigger seizure activity.

I'm wicked sensitive to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Most people get just like a headache after exposure to fumes; I can begin a serious 'aura' and have gone Grand Mal ... and status epilepticus ... and a ride to the ER.

Best remedy is negative-avoidance: Stay Away From The Stuff.

And believe me, I can smell the stuff (any stuff) a good mile away!

Alot of people are effected by light (occipital lobe in the brain).
I am not.

Anyway ... good luck.

do you use the same dish washing liquid? Besides what others have said,  It could be the smell of the liquid that is causing seizures

My son is 13 and has mixed seizures. He seems to have more seizures when he
is washing the dishes. Is this a trigger? Is this common?

Thanks.
