Re: [epilepsy] Re:(epilepsy) Re: Taking more than one medication Tammy

Nicole,

I know doctors can be a pain at times, Most of the time when I call my
neurologist, I get an answering machine.Sometimes they call back and
sometimes they don't. I don't blame you about going to the hospital. If the
doctor keeps doing you that way, you might need to find another doctor.Maybe
they just need to increase the dosage again. Sometimes it takes time finding
the right medicine that works well. I hope you find something that works for
her. Take care,write anytime.

Hi CBI,

Thanks for sharing your method of keeping a journal. You have several

[epilepsy] Re: (epilepsy) Re: Taking more than one medication

HI Millie,

Megan spent last year at college away from home, but it was a tough
time for her, as she was having a lot of problems with her seizure
meds. This year she has been living at home, with frequent overnights
at her older sister's. Frankly, at almost 20, I think she just feels
like she needs to be away from her parents for a few days sometimes.
She has never been good about keeping a seizure journal, so her
boyfriend and I try to help her keep track. Thanks for your ideas.
You are always there to answer people, and it is appreciated.

Take care,
Tammy

[epilepsy] Re: Depression

Hi Uhura,

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but depression isn't
necessarily a temporary problem. It can be an ongoing or chronic
problem for some people. I have had problems with depression almost
all of my adult life (I'm 52). I have been on SSRIs for about 10
years now, and they have really helped me. I am myself again.

Your advice is very good for those going through some mild to
moderate depression, but stronger means are usually needed for severe
and/or chronic depression.

Needless to say, I am always happy to hear that someone has gotten
past a period of depression, so I am very happy that you no longer
suffer from it.

Take care,
Tammy

Re: [epilepsy] Regarding auras

I also have aura type seizures.  I'm fortunate that my wife is with me and tells me when it happens but there are times when I'm alone out walking or some other place and I feel it come on.  I've notices I can sometimes concentrate very hard and force myself to stay conscious.   I'm not completely sure I'm aware of this and may in fact become unconscious.     When I'm walking and this occurs, I try to determine exactly where I am, like what driveway I'm next to, and then when I come out of it, I re pace my steps to determine how long it occurred and if I remember other things.   I believe I have managed to work my way through these with a level of confidence.

Walking is the one exercise I can do.  I tried swimming at the local Y each day but I ended up in the hospital and almost drowned.  At the time I had been seizure free for some time and had never had a problem.   It did scare me and my wife and my doctor recommend stopping. Too bad as I love to swim.

I don't get a headache after these seizures like I do when I had a grand mal.   Those make me exhausted for hours.     Do others think they can concentrate and force their way through a seizure retaining some control?

Nicole,

Welcome to the group. I have complex partial seizures, which I have had
since I was a baby from a head injury. It has been about 40 years now.My mom
didn't work much either when my seizures started getting worse. Even though
I don't have any kids, I know a parent has to spend most of their time with
something like seizures.Maybe the doctors could try a different kind of
medicine, that might do better with her. The medicine is probably making her
sad. If there is anything I can help you with, write anytime. Take care.
