Re: [epilepsy] Adding a 3rd anti-seizure med?

Hi Carolyn,

Well, my doctor says adding a third usually does not help if you are not controlled under 2. That being said, I do keep a little Keppra on the side, (my old medicine), to stop any seizure activity I'm having. I'm currently on Trileptal and zonisamide.

I loved Keppra (loved!!). Lamictal didn't do much, and Topamax gave me the word recall problems that I'm still having problems with years later. I don't know much about Vimpat--it's new, so probably very expensive. Phenobarb is an old, first-line medication that I didn't think doctors gave anymore, but if it works, then that's great!

Subject: [epilepsy] Adding a 3rd anti-seizure med?

My Dr. is considering adding a 3rd anti-seizure med to my Topomax, Trileptal
mix. She is thinking about Lamictal, Vimpat, Keppra or Phenobarbital. She
said I could research them and ask this list for experiences and advice
before I make my decision. Can any of you help? Thanks, Carolyn
